What were the Crusades? There were 8 Crusades. The Crusades were a series of military campaigns during Medieval England against Muslims of the Middle East. Around 1076, the muslims captured Jerusalem. (Jerusalem was the most holy of holy places for us Christians) The Christians fought to get Jerusalem back. These wars against Christianity and Muslim Religion went on for nearly 200 years.
The Fourth Crusade
The fourth Crusade happened shortly after the third crusade happened. Pope Innocent iii proclaimed another Crusade which was the Fourth Crusade. This was now against the Egyptians who were entitles to Jerusalem and had it under control. In the third Crusade Pope Innocent iii was not successful in claiming back the holy land though he was determined to recover what he believed to be the Christian Territory. Before doing this they had to undergo some though situation though the Pope finally listened to many recruits and decided to march all the way to Venice. The crusades could pay for their services so instead, they made a deal to help capture a Byzantine port in terms of payment.
The Outcome
The Crusades attacked their fellow christians even though the pope forbid it. The Crusades were distracting in the other conflicts that they forgot the primary objective "Conquering of Jerusalem". Because of another Failure, the fifth Crusades began.
